What is the ECPL?

The European Classic Paintball League (ECPL) is where old-school paintball meets modern-day passion. Hosting a thrilling series of 10-man “Classic” format events across the UK and mainland Europe, the ECPL brings together both seasoned veterans and fresh faces to experience the roots of tournament paintball. Whether you're reliving the golden days or discovering them for the first time, the ECPL is all about community, nostalgia, and serious fun.

Each event is played on a variety of classic-style fields—woodland, hyperball, mounds, and more—delivering an authentic and dynamic paintball experience at every venue.

UK Events – Home Turf, Big Action

In the UK, several legendary venues open their doors to host ECPL weekends. One of the biggest highlights of the calendar is the event at Mayhem Paintball Games in Romford, which hosted the UK’s largest ECPL gathering on August 3–4, 2024. The energy was electric, and our JP trade tent was set up all weekend long to support players and fans alike.

Other top-tier UK venues include:

• Warped Paintball (Cosford)

• Skirmish Pro Training Centre (Nottingham)

• NPF Bassetts Pole (Birmingham)

Each of these venues brings its own unique flair to the Classic paintball format, making every event a fresh but familiar blast from the past.

ECPL Meets the ICPL – Classic Goes Global

The ECPL runs in parallel with its big brother, the International Classic Paintball League (ICPL)—a global celebration of classic paintball, organized by the world-renowned National Xball League (NXL).

The ICPL features 5v5 and 10v10 Classic format events that stay true to the sport’s roots: woodsball, mounds, hyperball, and hybrid fields. The objective? Simple and thrilling: capture the flag and bring it back to your base before the clock runs out.

For the 2025 season, the ICPL is hosting three major European events:

• Megacampo, Lisbon, Portugal 

• Paintball Fabrik, Westerwaldkreis, Germany 

• Mayhem Paintball, Essex, United Kingdom 

These tournaments attract elite teams and passionate players from across the globe, offering a bigger stage but the same beloved gameplay style.

Gameplay & Gear – Keeping it Classic

ICPL and ECPL games reward teams for:

• Pulling and hanging the flag

• Eliminating opponents

• Keeping your own players alive

Players can use mechanical or electronic markers, though electronic markers must be capped at 5.5 balls per second, and may be set to either semi-auto or NXL ramping mode. 

This format emphasises teamwork, strategy, and raw paintball skill—just like it did in the early days of the sport.
